An online auction of artworks to raise money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Exhibition of artworks at Project Space Plus, Lincoln 19-28th July 2017, Monday to Friday 10am-4pm.
Lincolnshire based artist and University of Lincoln lecturer, Andrew Bracey has organised an online auction of over 70 artworks to raise money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The auction has been organised by Andrew in memory of his father, John Bracey who died of a heart and lung related illness last year. The artists involved have all generously donated their work for free and all money raised will go to the charity. An exhibition at Project Space Plus Gallery, at the University of Lincoln will be on from 19-28th July, 10-4pm on weekdays, so people can view the works in person, with the final day of bidding of the online auction on 28th July.
A number of Lincolnshire-based artists are in the auction, including Phil Cosker, Danica Maier, Ashley Gallant and Nick Simpson. Other artists include Turner Prize nominee Fiona Banner, Northern Art Prize winners Pavel Büchler and Leo Fitzmaurice, Marmite Painting Prize winner Iain Andrews and Contemporary British Painting Prize winner Cathy Lomax, as well as the man who inspired the auction, John Bracey.
The unusual title for the auction, Mardi Gras Requiem, recalls John’s love of trad Jazz and his favourite piece of music, Verdi’s Requiem. The mixture of the celebration of Mardi Gras and the act of remembrance in the requiem seemed fitting.
Andrew said “ my aim for the auction is to raise a lot of money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, who are one of the foremost UK hospitals delivering heart and chest care and research. The added bonus is that by donating to this worthy cause everyone who makes the highest bid will get to have a new and fantastic artwork on their wall.”
He talks of how, “my dad always liked to be a bit different and is remembered fondly as a creative gardener and designer, maker of a 15 ft bottle house, real ale enthusiast, architect, thinking po (positively), woodworker and for having a unique sense of humour.”
To make a bid people should visit the website www.mardigrasrequiem.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk to view the artworks.
